Host team Andhra Pradesh had a field day on the opening day of the 13th Muay Thai Indian (MTI) Senior National Championships at the Lal Bahadur Stadium Indoor Complex here today. Meanwhile, Muay athletes from other States like Chhattisgarh, Sikkim, Mizoram and Maharashtra also excelled in their respective fights. However, the centre stage was taken by female athlete from Chhattisgarh, who dominated the field by bagging five of the eight medals that were up for grabs. They gave an admirable display of grit and determination to the delight of the youthful spectators who were present in large numbers. The highest number of gold winners from men came from Andhra Pradesh with as many as four wining their respective bouts against equally formidable opponents. Twenty bouts were held for men on the day. Meanwhile, MTI President M H Abid announced that as a promotional endeavour and to welcome participation of more and more women, the winner of the best gold medal from among women would be declared as MTI Queen-2012.
