New Delhi, Aug 15 : After many students were seen holding placards of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at a stadium here during the Independence Day celebrations, ousted Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Prashant Bhushan on Saturday dubbed it as “height of sycophancy and height of personality cult.”
“Earlier also there was this whole spate of advertisements, which were only about Kejriwal as if he is the government and the government is Kejriwal. Earlier in the Congress Party, during just before the emergency, the party president Devakanta Barua used to shout ‘India is Indira and Indira is India’ in front of her and she neither stopped him, in fact encouraged this kind of sycophancy,” Bhushan told ANI here.
“The same thing appears to be happening with Arvind Kejriwal. On this Independence Day, the manner in which he got this ‘Arvind Kejriwal’ written in large by thousands of kids, is the height of sycophancy; it is the height of personality cult,” he added.
Bhushan pointed out that the AAP was not formed to practice “this kind of low grade personality cult politics,” instead it was formed to become the vehicle of alternative politics.
“Unfortunately Arvind has surrounded himself by such sycophants who are constantly telling him ‘you are god’, that he has started believing it,” he added.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief drew netizens’ ire after his name was displayed instead of Jai Hind or any other patriotic message at Chhatrasal Stadium in the national capital.
Cabinet member of Kejriwal government Kapil Mishra, who is also the Chairman of the Delhi Jal Board, took to his Twitter page to share a picture saying, “Students have written name of Arvind Kejriwal using placards at Chhatrasal stadium.” (ANI)
