Thiruvananthapuram, December 05: The clashes between two communities at Cheriyathura on the outskirts of the city in which six persons were killed in a police firing appeared to be a pre-planned one, a crime branch probe has concluded.
According to police, the crime branch had found that explosive materials and other chemicals, collected from the vicinity of the violent incidents in May, were brought from outside the state.
Though country made bombs were found in fishermen’s areas during violence, these kinds of explosive materials were being detected for the first time which indicated that there was a planned move from some quarters to instigate the clashes, officials said.
Six persons were killed when police fired to control clashing groups of fishermen on May 17 at Cheriyathura. A judicial enquiry is going on into the police firing.
