Chennai: LKG student dies after falling into an open Septic Tank

Chennai: A tragic death incident of a four-year child is reported from Chennai’s Srinivasapuram, Iyyapanthangal where the kid fell into an unchecked open septic tank at his school.

Son of a laborer, the deceased is identified as M Kitheesahwaran an LKG student at Masi Matriculation Higher Secondary school fell into the open Septic Tank during the short break around 11.30 am.

According to the reports, Kirtheeshwaran died after falling into the hole in the open septic Tank in his school near the washroom which the repairman had left open.

The Investigation officer said, “The victim had gone along with three other boys to the rest room. He failed to notice that the lid of the septic tank was open and slipped into the tank filled with 10-foot-deep sewage water.”

Adding that, “During investigation, we found that the school had hired a plumber to check the septic tank. He was carrying out works and during lunch, he left the tank open and went outside.”

The school management was informed about tragic incident when the other students who witnessed the incident alerted their teachers. The management then informed the SRMC Police along with calling in rescue and help personnel.

Since the news about the tragic death of the student spread several parents reached the school protesting against the management.

The SRMC Police assured the parents that action against the management would be initiated to find the person responsible for the kid’s death.

“No other child should meet such a tragic end. Authorities should wake up from their slumber and ensure such an accident never repeats in any of the schools and strict action should be taken against those responsible,” said a local A Karthik.

A case was registered under Section 304(A) (causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) reported the News Minute.

So far no arrests have been made in the case said the Police while further action will be taken after the autopsy reports come in.

The kid’s body was sent for autopsy today.
