Chennai: Heavy rains to slash Tamil Nadu

Chennai: The recent report from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) warns of heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours in Tamil Nadu and Kerala on Wednesday.

It said that a depression is forming over the southwest Bay of Bengal at 500 km of southeast of Kanyakumari which will bring heavy rains to various regions of south Tamil Nadu and Kerala which will further move northwest bringing heavy rains to Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga and Viruthunagar, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur and Tiruvarur over the next 48 hours.

The winds are likely to move at a speed of 45-55kmph said the release, advising the fisherman to stay alert as it could get rough in the sea.

Meanwhile, another weather department AccuWeather has warned of a newly-formed depression that would threaten various parts of India and Sri Lanka with heavy rains and flooding.
