Chennai: Getting admission of the children is becoming challenging for most of the parents these days in nearby schools. In such cases, parents have to send their children many kilometres away. A young engineer from Chennai had to knock the Judiciary for securing a seat in a nearby school for his son.
S. Balaji, a 36-year-old engineer residing in Pallavaram, Chennai whose three-year-old son was refused admission in a “reputed” private school in his area, had dragged the school administration to the Madras High Court, reports TH.
According to Balaji, he had applied registration for his son’s admission in the private school located in Chromepet on April 1 since it is located within four kilometres from his home. But for some “unknown and uninformed reasons,” admission was refused to his son.
When he enquired about it, he was allegedly informed by the school management that it was not mandatory to inform the reason for the decision and that admissions would be made only as per the wish and will of the management. He alleged that in his case, admission was denied only because he belongs to Scheduled Tribe community. Alleging discrimination on part of the school management, Balaji wanted the court to direct the school to admit his son in LKG.
Admitting the plea, Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana ordered notice to the CBSE and the School Management returnable by two weeks.
