Chennai, August 25: A double murder case in Chennai turned into a major controversy involving the city police after the accused died in their custody on Tuesday.
Rajan, who died in the police custody, had allegedly gunned down a retired merchant navy captain and his wife at their home in posh Pannayur after looting money and jewellery on Monday, but was caught and allegedly thrashed before being handed over to the police.
The couple’s daughter-in-law and grand children had suffered severe injuries and were still undergoing treatment in a hospital.
As the accused tried to escape, relatives of the couple chased and caught him. The police said Rajan fainted during interrogation and died on way to hospital.
The couple – Elangovan and Ramani – had come down from France for a holiday.
