Sharjah: Checking a spouse’s cell phone without his or her permission is the violation of privacy.
The punishment is a combination of imprisonment for 3 months in addition to a fine ranging from Dh3,000 to Dh5,000, lawyers said .
According to Gulf News, people caught could be prosecuted under Federal Penal Code No. 380 which protects the privacy and freedom of both spouses.
Lawyer Mohammad Abdullah Al Redha told Gulf News, as per Articles 14 and 21 of the Cybercrime Law in the UAE, any person who illegally accessing a smartphone without permission could face up to 3 years in jail and/or fined between Dh250,000 to Dh500,000.
Therefore, if you’re looking through your spouse’s mobile phone without his or her authorisation, and she or he’s really not happy about it, you could end up in jail.
