Expressing concern over unabated nuisance of eve-teasing, harassment and torture of girls and women and growing rape cases and burglaries in the State, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today directed checking of social media, internet, cell phone usage followed by a 24-hour help desk through 181 toll free phone number.
During a high-level review meeting here, the Chief Minister asked the officials to initiate effective measures so that no one could dare to stare at girls and women and cause inconvenience in the society. KCR discussed at length on the recommendations made by Women Protection Committee and made some suggestions to improve the functioning of the police wing and provide immediate justice. He also suggested a few steps to provide protection and job opportunities to girls and women include ensuring 33 per cent reservation for women in police stations, strengthening of DMA Center in Hyderabad, setting up of fast track courts for speedy justice and entrusting DSPs at districts to look into the problems, offer “She Autos” to women on 50 per cent subsidy, collect details of drivers and owners of taxis and autos.
Providing maternal leave and all facilities to women employees and equal salaries at work places, preventing feticide, study to stop use of cheap liquor, need to hike existing Rs 750 per woman at rescue homes were others issues discussed in the meeting. He directed the officials to curb unabated chain snatchings on the outskirts, thefts and burglaries. The CM asked the police to be vigilant and use technology if necessary to nab the culprits without any delay. The officials informed the CM that they are collecting photos and finger prints of eve teasers nabbed besides counseling their parents. (NSS)
