Cheating case against Chiranjeevi

Hyderabad, May 19: Following a court directive, cases have been registered against the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) chief K Chiranjeevi and 11 other party leaders for allegedly cheating the people of Telangana by backtracking on the issue of separate statehood.

A local court, on May 12, directed the Jubilee Hills police to investigate a complaint filed by an advocate A Srinivas.

In the complaint, Srinivas had alleged that the PRP president and his party leaders had extended their support to separate Telangana during the 2009 Assembly elections.

The Praja Rajyam Party had also assured to support the issue during an all-party meet convened by the then chief minister K Rosaiah on December 7, 2009, the petitioner alleged.

But Chiramjeevi including his party leaders had backtracked which had led to suicides of several students from the Telangana region, he said and added that the act had led to the promotion of enmity between people of three regions in the state.

“On the directive of the court, we have registered cases against Chiranjeevi and 11 others soon after we received orders,” Jubilee Hills police inspector K Narsing Rao said.

Cases under various Sections of IPC were registered and investigation is on.
