Paris, March 12 :They always seemed a rather mismatched couple. But now it appears that 5ft- 5in Nicolas Sarkozy and his supermodel wife Carla Bruni may have found something in common. They are, if the rumour mill is to be believed, both having affairs.
The 55- year- old French president is said to be romancing his 40- year- old ecology minister, who is alaso a karate champion. Bruni, 43, is rumoured to be involved with a pop star six years her junior.
There has been speculation that the couple’s marriage would last only as long as Sarkozy remained in power. But this is the first time there have been suggestions that both are committing adultery.
The rumours were given extra weight by their appearance on the website of leading French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche . Bruni, a singer herself, is said to be involved with Benjamin Biolay.
A journalist at a recent ceremony where Biolay won an award said: “ Carla would be the first to congratulate him.” Another reporter posted a message on Twitter reading, “ Benjamin Biolay is the bloke who…,” before leaving readers waiting for more.
Sarkozy is reported to have sought comfort in the arms of Chantal Jouanno. A report on TV channel i- Tele after Jouanno’s latest karate victory commented: “ It’s not known whether Sarkozy has had time to congratulate his secretary of state for ecology.” Le Journal du Dimanche said: “ A romance is said to have started a few weeks ago between the First Lady of France and music award winner Benjamin Biolay.” It added the presidential marriage was “ breathing its last breaths.
Bruni is in love with Biolay and the president has found solace with Jouanno”. Bruni and Sarkozy were married in February 2008. This was the third marriage for the president while Bruni is said to have been involved several men, including Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton.
French first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has quashed rumors that all’s not well in her and Nicolas’ paradise. From the starting itself, Bruni has been bombarded with questions about her marriage with the president. The singer married Nicolas three months after meeting him, but said it “wasn’t possible” to be with him without getting married.
In an exclusive interview, Bruni told Sky News: “It was unbearable for public opinion, which I do understand.
“It wasn’t about ‘hey, let’s date’, we had to do it fast to calm the people down.”
While talking about the infidelity claims, Bruni said: “He would never have an affair. And have you ever seen a picture of him having an affair?”
