Despite the state government trying to make city safe by introducing new police vehicles, installation of CCTVs, forming ‘SHE’ teams and various other tech-support gadgets, but it seems the city has turned more crime prone and all efforts by the police in tackling crime against women are going in vain.
The burnt body of a woman, aged 25 was found burnt in the high security Punjagutta colony, which is home to several IAS and IPS officers, on Friday. In fact, the body was found right opposite to the quarter of the Inspector General of Police, Hyderabad.
The police found a matchbox, water bottle and a wine bottle at the crime scene. A local boy alerted patrolling officer, Pandu Rangaiah, about the body on the road. It was then that the police swung into action.
According to K. Gurunath, sub-inspector, Punjagutta police “There are no eyewitnesses to the incident which took place between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m.” “We did not hear anything. We came to know of the incident only after the police arrived.” None of the neighbours heard any screams said, A Venkateshwar Rao, DCP West Zone.
It appears to be a case of suicide because the burns are mostly anti-mortem in nature. She could have come to the spot alone and immolated herself,” said a police inspector. But, the police are also probing if she was murdered first and her body burnt later.
This is the second such incident in the city which has been reported in the last three days. The victim’s body, charred beyond recognition, was lying inside a park premises abutting a garage in IAS Officers Colony behind the famous Pochamma Temple.
