A division bench of Andhra Pradesh High Court has directed the state government to consider shifting the old police station located near historical Charminar to another place.
Charminar is a heritage structure hence as per the law no construction work can be undertaken within its 100 metre diameter. But it is also a fact that due to criminal silence of bigoted officials of state Archaeology department and other authorized departments, construction of a temple abutting Charminar police station is in progress. It must be noted that a shade and a compound wall is being constructed inside Charminar police station against which some worried locals knocked the door of the court.
Charminar police station is one of the oldest police stations which was constructed by prime minister of Hyderabad Deccan Nawab Mir Turab Ali Khan Mukhtarul Mulk better known as Sir Salarjung I. He was the one who constructed nearly 80 percent police stations in and around Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
