Guwahati: A day after Assam Assembly Speaker Pranab Gogoi suspended six MLAs from the BJP and nine from the Congress, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday said that the charges against him were politically motivated.
Congress MLA Hemant Biswo Sharma, who had recently declared his allegiance to the opposition party along with eight others, has accused the Chief Minister of influencing the Speaker to take the decision.
“They are making an allegation that the Chief Minister has influenced the Speaker to take decision. Everybody knows that I was sitting in the house there was no medium to communicate to the Speaker,” Gogoi told the media here.
“Making an allegation against the Speaker and against me is baseless and politically motivated. I challenge him to prove it,” he added.
Gogoi also said that the opposition MLAs were completely violating the rules and procedure of the House as they wanted to create some sort of disturbance.
“Our Speaker took a decision to suspend all those. In fact, we all also requested not to suspend for the whole of the period but just for a day, but it is decision is up to the Speaker,” he added.
Six BJP MLAs and nine Congress MLAs were yesterday suspended from the Assam Assembly for five days by the Speaker for disobeying his ruling and creating noisy scenes. (ANI)
