New Delhi: A charge sheet will soon be filed by the Delhi police against former JNU students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya and other activists, in the sedition case. This was informed by Delhi police commissioner Amulya Patnaik on Wednesday. Hindustan Times quoted Patnaik as saying, “The case is in the stage of finalisation. The investigation was complex as the team also had to visit other states for taking statements. The charge sheet will be filed soon.”
It must be recalled that Kumar, Khalid and Bhattacharya were arrested in 2016 in a sedition case for allegedly organising an event in Jawaharlal Nehru University campus against the hanging of Parliament-attack mastermind Afzal Guru.
The arrest projected Kumar to national fame and huge controversy was triggered over his arrest. Opposition slammed the police for “working at the behest of the ruling BJP”.
