Actress Priya Banerjee, who will be seen in the upcoming remake of “Darr”, says her role in the film will be different than what Juhi Chawla played in the 1993 blockbuster.
Directed by Yash Chopra, “Darr” starred superstar Shah Rukh Khan as an obsessive lover Rahul who stalks Kiran, played by Juhi.
Priya says comparisons between her character and the “Yes Boss” star is inevitable.
“The character won’t be like hers. Its very different. People are already comparing the role with Juhi mam and the comparison does put you under a little pressure. I shouldn’t be compared to someone like her who is already such a huge star,” Priya told PTI.
The “Darr” remake stars TV actor Karanvir Bohra and is directed by TV director Lalit Mohan of “Iss Pyaar Ko Main Kya Naam Doon” fame.
Priya, who made her Bollywood debut in Aishwarya Rai-Irrfan Khan starrer “Jazbaa”, says she did not revisit the original film.
“Not at all. My director didn’t want me to watch or take anything from the original. The role should have my own essence because if I watch the film now, the nuances of the character will be there on the back of my head. Since this role is also different, it had to have my own essence.”
The 25-year-old actress says the remake, which is being shot in Manali, will be different from the original as it is more “intense.”
“It is different from the original film. It is an intense film where there is scope for me to show my acting skills. It is a performance oriented film where my character has various shades. I know there is a lot of curiosity regarding the film but it will be different.
