Changes in existing college curriculum planned

Hyderabad, September 26: The government is planning to bring in changes in the existing curriculum to provide quality education in the state, higher education minister D Sridhar Babu has said.

He was the chief guest at the Indo-Global Education Summit 2010 curtain raiser, organised by the Indus Foundation here today. Sridhar Babu released the brochure of the summit, which will be held in December 3 in the city.

Speaking on the occasion, Sridhar Babu said the state government is planning to change the existing curriculum at higher education level to provide quality education. “Even as the government is providing a number of beneficial schemes for the student community, only 12 per cent of the eligible candidates are pursuing higher studies in the state,’’ he said. International education summits would help the students to know the details of foreign universities and the courses they offer.

A three-day long ‘Indo-global education summit 2010’ to be held in the city from December 3- 5 is to create awareness among the Indian students on foreign education system. Besides, the summit would have sessions on engineering, information technology (IT), business and management, life sciences, biomedicine, arts and humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.

Speaking to media persons here today, S B Anumolu, Indus Foundation president, said : “As many as 10,000 students and faculty from 200 universities across the globe and 1,000 Indian education institutions will participate in the summit.’’

R P Singh, retired IPS and chief executive officer (CEO) of Indo-American Cancer Institute and Research Centre, said that the Indian educational system has been undergoing a paradigm shift in the recent past. India has the world’s second largest post secondary student population of around 13 million. It is expected that this number would double in the next 12 to 15 years.
