Senior leader of Gulbarga, Mr. Shakeel Ahmed strongly opposed the proposal of Govt. of Karnataka to change the name of Gulbarga district. In a press statement released yesterday, he told that Gulbarga is a historical name. During the Bahmani period, its name was Husnabad. After the arrival of Hazrath Khwaja Banda Nawaz, its name was changed as Gulbarga. “Gul” means flower and “Barga” means leaves. So in this way the city carried the name Gulbarga. It is not appropriate to change historical names of the city.
