Chandy to inaugurate two-day Kerala diaspora meet

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the two-day Global Non-Resident Keralites (NRK) meet in Kochi Friday, said a state minister.

State Minister for the Diaspora K.C. Joseph told reporters here Wednesday that the meet is being organised by the Department of Non-Resident Keralites’ Affairs (NORKA) and its field agency Norka-Roots.

“This would be an interactive meeting with around 1,000 people, and would revolve around policy formulation and economic growth, besides issues relating to NRKs who have had to return to Kerala for various reasons and their rehabilitation,” said Joseph.

Nearly 450 NRKs from around 20 countries, including Gulf nations, the UK, the US, Canada, Germany, France, Kenya, Libya, Singapore and Thailand have already registered as delegates. About 1,000 delegates are expected to attend the meet.

All the Kerala cabinet ministers will be present at various sessions that have been scheduled during the meet.

An open forum will be organised Friday for the NRKs to interact with Chandy.

A parallel session on the ‘Influence of Malayalam and Kerala Culture on NRKs’ will be attended by well-known scholars and cultural figures.
