Hyderabad: Retired IAS Officers’ Forum of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has submitted a memorandum to Governor ESL Narasimhan expressing anguish at the objectionable remarks of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu against AP Chief Secretary LV Subramanyam and Chief Electoral Officer Gopalakrishna Dwivedi on April 10.
The retired officers pointed out that such a statement by Chandrababu Naidu not only goes against the reputation of a brilliant officer like LV Subramanyam but also goes against public interest since it challenges the legitimate authority of the Election Commission of India. They stated, “The intimidating manner in which Chandrababu Naidu spoke to the Chief Electoral Officer was unbecoming of a public figure of his stature and standing. In matters relating to the conduct of elections, such behaviour and utterances of a chief minister would damage the credibility of the highest officials in the bureaucracy and in the process, harm the image of the head of the government”, the petitioners said.
The retired IAS officers urged the Governor to take necessary action against the outbursts of a chief minister against high-placed officers immediately so that such attempts to publicly belittle and humiliate top officials of the State are not allowed to recur in future.
Among the signatories to the statement are a number of former senior IAS officials, including T Gopala Rao, Vinod Kumar Agarwal, MG Gopal, IVR Krishna Rao and others.
