Chandrababu Naidu to visit Chhattisgarh on Monday

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu will visit Chhattisgarh on Monday to sort out issues arising out of the multipurpose Polavaram Project.

The Polavaram Ordinance envisages transfer of 136 villages, 211 hamlets and seven mandals of Khammam district to the successor state of Andhra Pradesh to execute the Polavaram National Project.

The Andhra Pradesh Government hopes to complete this national irrigation project within three years which will link the Krishna and Godavari rivers. Due to the project, four villages of Chhattisgarh including Dendra, Inzarim, Konta and Mulakisoli may get submerged besides 759 hectares of land. There is danger of submergence of 3,831 hectares of forest land. Therefore, Chandrababu Naidu will meet his Chhattisgarh counterpart Raman Singh to discuss and solve the issues pertaining to the project. He will also talk about the rehabilitation and compensation for tribals.

Chandrababu Naidu will also visit Naya Raipur to study the capital development model and also examine Chhattisgarh’s PDS model that has managed to plug leakages in the system from 40% to 4%. Providing rice at subsidised rates has been at the centre of Andhra politics since 1983, when NT Rama Rao became the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister will study the core PDS model which de-privatised Fair Price Shops (FPS) and gave the responsibility of managing the ration shops to women’s self-help groups, panchayats and cooperative societies. This brought the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh credit for strengthening the PDS system and became popularly known as “Chawal Baba”.

On the development of Naya Raipur, the Chief Minister will study the comprehensive document that outlines planning parameters pertaining to economy, housing, transport, physical and social infrastructure, civic amenities, land use zoning and standards for development.

The Chief Minister will study the NRDA development plan that identifies the creation of a software technology park, low impact industries like gems and jewellery, a central business district, a university area which would encompass health, education and research services and a series of regional recreational areas dispersed throughout the city and along its peripheries including a golf course, a safari park, a botanical garden, and other amenities that will provide recreation for residents and encourage tourism in the city, and state.
