C’garh community leaders ask migrant Dalits to return

Chandigarh, April 26: With the recent violence against Dalits in a Haryana village triggering their exodus from there, community leaders today appealed to them to return to their homes.

The appeal was made at the all-community leaders’ meeting of Mirchpur village held at Hisar today and presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Garg, an official release said here.

A physically challenged girl was burnt alive and her father received serious burn injuries when some persons set afire houses belonging to Dalits at Mirchpur in Hisar district on April 21.

Terming the whole incident as “highly disgraceful and regretful”, the community leaders requested the Dalit families that have migrated from the village to return to their homes.

The meeting put emphasis on setting up ‘Sadbhavna Samitis’ at the village level so that recurrence of such incidents could be averted.
