After a gap of nearly six years, the state government has issued “essentiality certificates” for three educational societies to set up medical colleges in the state. These institutions can now seek approval from the Medical Council of India.

The Apollo Hospitals Group, the Chandramma Educational Society owned by the Malla Reddy Group of Educational Institutions and the Anil Neerukonda Educational Society, Visakhapatnam, which already runs the NRI Medical College in Guntur, were given ECs.

While the Apollo and Malla Reddy Group have proposed to set up medical colleges in Hyderabad, the NRI Medical College Group has proposed to set up a college in Vizag.

If the MCI gives final approval to these institutions after inspections, the state will get an additional 400 MBBS seats from the next academic year.
