Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal expressed satisfaction over the peaceful completion of by-elections in the seven assembly constituencies in the State.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Bhanwarlal said that there were no complaints with regard to Electronic Voting Machines during the counting of votes and all postal ballots were valid. He thanked the media and general public for their cooperation in ensuring the peaceful conduct of elections.

Bhanwarlal said that so far, the Election Commission has spent about Rs 15 crore. However, the total expenditure is likely to be around Rs 25 crore.

The CEO said that about Rs 14 crore, including Rs 10 crore cash was seized by the police during the election campaigning in seven constituencies. He said the amount seized was much higher as Rs 38 crore were seized during the general elections for Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly held in 2009.
