CEO clarifies doubts on EVMs in Nizamabad segment

Hyderabad: CEO Rajat Kumar today stated that the Election Commission has taken a decision to use EVMs for Nizamabad parliamentary segment wherein 185 candidates are contesting. CEO came to Nizamabad by a helicopter and held a meeting with registered political parties and contestants in the segment. As many as 179 farmers are in poll fray this time and the EC will use EVMs instead of ballot papers he clarified during a meeting with contestants and political parties in Nizamabad along with Additional DG Jithender and others.

He said that his visit was to clarify doubts of the candidates and political parties on the use of EVMs. The EC has the right to use EVMs in this segment and steps have been taken. BEL engineers are working here for smooth and fair conduct of the polls, he said. Use of ballots is a laborious job for 185 candidates and EC decided to use high end technology EVMs. He denied the comments as baseless that the EVMs can be tampered.

As per EC directive the officials are using 24 ballot units with M-3 type of EVMs for the polls he said. The EC will take swift action in 100 minutes against the violators of poll code informed. The people can download C Vigil application to file complaints on poll code violations, Rajat Kumar said.
