CEO Central Hajj committee evasive over SC ruling on Hajj subsidy

Central Hajj Committee is helpless to react upon Supreme Court ruling regarding Hajj subsidy till any direction is received by the external affairs minister to put in force the Supreme Court ruling. Chief executive officer central Hajj Committee Dr. S Shakir Husain told this while talking to Siasat. He told that preparations are on for Hajj 2012 as done in the past and no consideration has been made regarding implementation of new conditions. He told that if direction is received by external affairs ministry as per Supreme Court ruling, then the central Hajj committee would abide by the direction.

It must be recalled that The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Union government to gradually reduce and abolish Hajj subsidy in 10 years and invest the amount – averaging over Rs 650 crores a year for last five years – in education and other measures for social development of the minority community.

Regarding the quota allotted to the states across the country Dr. Shakir Husain told that the allotment of quota to the states and union territories has been done on the basis of 2001 census and the quota is allotted proportionate to the Muslim population. Muslim population in Andhra Pradesh is 5.06 percent hence a quota of 5764 has been allotted for Andhra Pradesh Hajj aspirants. Uttar Pradesh has got the highest, while Himachal Pradesh has got the lowest quota proportionate to their Muslim population.

Online qurra will be held on May 10 at 10 am for the Hajj aspirants applied for Hajj pilgrimage through Andhra Pradesh state Hajj committee.
