Centre urges states to increase water use efficiency

New Delhi, July 15: The Centre has urged the state governments to increase their water usage efficiency by 20 per cent on the lines of the National Water Mission.

Addressing state secretaries in charge of water resources and irrigation here, Union Water Resources Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said the states should join central government’s resolve to make all efforts to increase water use efficiency by 20 per cent as per the goals of National Water Mission.

He also stressed on the need to better utilise the irrigation facilities created since Independence.

Bansal was addressing a conference of Principal Secretaries or Secretaries of States and Union Territories dealing with Irrigation and Water Resources here yesterday.
