Centre urged to confer title on Sri Sri

Hyderabad, April 26: CPI state secretary K Narayana has demanded that the central government honour Telugu revolutionary writer Sri Sri by conferring `Maha Kavi’ title on him and releasing a commemorative postage stamp before April 30, the poet’s birth anniversary and concluding day of the birth centenary celebrations.

Speaking to reporters at the CPI state headquarters here today, Narayana said that by honouring Sri Sri the government would be honouring people’s movements which took inspiration from the poet. He said several political parties and people’s organisations had already brought this to the notice of the government and hoped it would react positively.

He appealed to the Leftist organisations to pay homage to the great poet from one platform before April 30 to strengthen the Left movement in the state.

Referring to power shortage, the CPI leader advised the government to buy power from all private power generation units by invoking the Electricity Act 11-A as done by Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The state government should hold an allparty meeting to discuss the issue, he said.
