Hyderabad, August 14: An all-party delegation of various political parties in the state on Friday urged the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests to cancel the environmental clearance for the power plant proposed by Nagarjuna Construction Company Limited (NCC) at Sompeta in Srikakulam district immediately.
They wanted the Central government to intervene and ensure that no further attempts are entertained in this regard.
In a representation submitted to Union minister of state (independent charge) for environment and forests Jairam Ramesh, the delegation wanted the Union ministry to implement the recommendations made by the Site Inspection Committee which they felt have submitted a report reflecting the ground realities and factual information.
They pointed out that committee’s report clearly stated that the proposed power plant will do irreversable damage to the eco-system in the area. They felt that the power project will not only threaten the livelihood of many people but will also endanger the eco-system.
CPI state secretary K Narayana, CPM state secretary BV Raghavulu, Telugu Desam Party parliament member N Nageswara Rao, Lok Satta Party leader B Babji and also representatives of CPI (ML) New Democracy and other opposition parties are part of the all-party delegation.
They appreciated Jairam Ramesh for taking the initiative and appointing the committee to probe into the allegations which are likely to cause disturbance to the ecosystem.
