The Centre is planning to bring a legislation on setting up of Skill Development University in the country, during the upcoming session of Parliament, Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy said here today.
“We have decided that in the upcoming Parliament session we will bring out a Skill University Bill. If this legislation passes in the Parliament, then Centre wants Skill University to be set up in states including Bihar, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh besides couple of more states,” Rudy told reporters.
“The proposed Skill Development University will be completely different from regular universities. But there is a process involved. Before we actually do it, once the proposal is firmed up, we have to take it to other ministries, seek consultations…Take it to Cabinet and then to Parliament.
“We are toying with the idea of getting a Skill University Bill… We are trying to see that we are able to get this legislation in place during the Monsoon session of Parliament,” the Minister of State for Skill Development said.
Rudy further said that skill development is an ambitious mission of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Modi has agreed to launch the national skill mission and national skill policy in Dehli once it is cleared by the Cabinet, on July 15 as part of the International Skills Day, he added.
