Up to Centre to take call on Vidarbha statehood: Fadnavis

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday reiterated that there was no proposal before his government to grant statehood to Vidarbha.

Speaking in the state council, Fadnavis asserted there was no threat to his post because of this emotive matter, adding that the right of creating separate states lies with the Centre and not to the state government.

Speaking on the issue of amending the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning – MRTP Act, he said an ordinance would be issued soon in this regard.

He said the amendment will do away with prior approval of the municipal corporations before filing the First Information Report against guilty civic officials. The Maharashtra Chief Minister added that the amendment shall entail filing of charge sheet within three months of lodging FIR.

The ordinance is likely to clamp down illegal constructions.
