Centre should make T-stand clear, says Venkaiah

Hyderabad, May 10: Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member M Venkaiah Naidu has demanded the UPA government to make its stand clear on Telangana in the wake of contradictory statements made by home minister P Chidambaram and Justice B N Srikrishna.

Speaking to reporters here today, he said while the home minister says the solution to the problem of Telangana lies not in Delhi but in Andhra Pradesh, Justice Srikrishna categorically stated that a final decision on the Telangana issue has to be taken by the Parliament and the Centre, he said. In this backdrop the Central government should clear the confusion by making a statement on this issue.

On Jharkhand, Naidu said the BJP Parliamentary Party Board would take a decision in Delhi tomorrow.

Expressing concern over the falling standards of legislatures in the country, Naidu said leaders of all political parties should introspect in this regard. “After my 45-year long political experience, I feel it was general view of the common man that the standard of legislatures have come down. People don’t like the way the elected representatives behave in Parliament and state assemblies,’’ Naidu said.

“In the larger interest of the country, it is high time now for the political parties and their leaders to introspect and initiate measures to raise standards of discussions on various issue,’’ he pointed out. However, the BJP leader said the responsibility to raise of standards of discussions in Parliament and assemblies lies on the ruling party at the Centre.
