In order to provide the qualitative power supply and improving the overall energy efficiency through Re-structured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (R-APDRP) scheme in Andhra Pradesh, the Union Ministry of Powerhas sanctioned Rs.100 Crores to establish Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) in four towns of Vizag, Vijayawada, Guntur and Nellore to facilitate centralized data collection which enables to improve system stability, easy accessibility to each and every consumer, instantaneous collection of parameters like voltage, current, power, etc.
Energy Secretary Ajay Jain informed that this amount may be utilized towards procurement of 11 KV five way RMU (Ring Main Unit), Three way RMU, FPI (Fault Passage Indicators), Sectionalisers, Auto Reclosures and Vacuum Circuit Brakers.
R-APDRP, flagship programme of Govt. of India paves the way to strengthen the power sector by the way of taking up of IT initiatives in urban areas for enhancing customer services. The R-APDRP project is aimed at strengthening the Distribution Systems in all the towns by using latest IT initiatives such as meter data acquisition, energy audit, metering, billing & collection, GIS based customer indexing and asset mapping, establishment of centralized customer care centres apart from setting up of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and effective Distribution Management Systems (DMS).
While reviewing the progress of R-APDRP with K. Vijayanand, MD/APGENCO & APTRANSCO and CMDs of DISCOMs HY Dora and Seshagiri Babu in a teleconference, Ajay Jain said that the main objective of the Govt. of is to provide better services to the consumers and to reduce Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses.
CMDs of DISCOMs informed the Energy Secretary that DISCOMs were working round the clock to execute this programme as this leads to conservation of energy as the schemes main objective is to reduce the losses. In this critical juncture, wherein state is going through power shortages and in view of the Central/State Govt. prestigious projects 24 x 7 power supply to domestic sector, energy conservation plays a crucial role, even 1% reduction in losses conserves a huge quantum of energy. K. Vijayanand, MD/APGENCO & APTRANSCO informed that fresh guidelines have been issued to the DISCOMs to further reduce the Transmission & Distribution losses which also help for sustainability of power sector.
