Centre not to take hasty decision on gay sex: Moily

Chennai, July 20: Taking note of sentiments expressed by different sections of the society, the Centre today said it would not take a hasty decision on legalising homosexuality.

“We have taken note of sentiments expressed by cross sections of people and that is why the government is not hasty to form its opinion to be submitted to Supreme Court,” Union Law and Justice Minister M Veerappa Moily told reporters here.

Noting that parties concerned had moved the Supreme Court against the recent Delhi High Court judgement decriminalising homosexuality, he said the apex court had issued a notice to the Centre. “We are yet to react to it. We are considering the views to be taken (by the government).”

He said the Law Commission had also submitted a report on the IPC Section 377 pertaining to same gender sex and the government and was yet to take a view on it.PTI
