Centre may set up panel to finalise uniform checklist for realtors

Hyderabad, April 02: Hyderabad, Apr 1 (PTI) The Union Urban Development Ministry may set up a consultative committee involving representatives of various states to finalise a uniform checklist for real estate developers, the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India (Credai) said today. Credai president Lalit Kumar Jain said Urban Development Kamal Nath has acknowledged the need to set up seamless and uniform guidelines applicable across the country. “Credai will submit a comprehensive checklist for good governance to the minister, who will be participating as chief guest at Natcon 2011, a premier real estate development conference, in Singapore on April 28,” Jain told reporters here. Narrating the problems being faced by the industry, Jain sought significant policy initiatives such as ‘single window clearance’ for approvals, rationalisation of taxes and uniform stamp duty across the country.

He said at the moment the sector has many hurdles in the process of obtaining over 40 approvals including environment, high rise, airport authority and police, Jain said adding that some states like Maharashtra were taking over a couple of years for according all clearances.

“The high rise committee in Maharashtra didn’t have its meeting for the last 18 months, badly affecting the project schedules of real estate developers,” he said. Credai, has over 6,000 real estate developers across 74 cities in 20 states as its members.

Credai vice president C Shekar Reddy said the confederation plans to set up consumer redressal cells in all states across the country to address the consumer disputes, with an objective of resolving the disputes amicably within 60 days. The confederation has already set up redressal cells in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Kerala and the response was encouraging, Reddy said.
