‘Centre has several aces up its sleeve’

Hyderabad, January 04: The report submitted by the Srikrishna Committee will only be one of the several information documents that the central government has on the Telangana issue and the committee will not make any recommendations but will mention people’s feelings and the prevailing circumstances in the state, state Congress president D Srinivas is learnt to have told his close aides.

The PCC chief feels that the Congress- led UPA government will look into all aspects, including the one relating to the committee report, before taking a decision or considering the entire Telangana issue. Nothing is going to happen with the presentation of the report since it is only one of the tools that the Centre has in its hands and use it when it has to take a decision on the statehood issue. The government will not consider the report in isolation and decide on the issue.

Even the proposed all-party meeting called by Union home minister P Chidambaram in New Delhi on January 6 is only meant to gather the views or doubts, if any, from the representatives of eight political parties, but not to seek their opinions on the committee’s report. The Centre might announce a schedule when to meet again to take the parties’ opinions on the issue, he is learnt to have observed.
