Centre is in favour of Telangana: KCR

Hyderabad, September 28: Claiming that the Centre was in favour of Telangana state, Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhara Rao on Wednesday stated that the government was yet to take a decision on the State capital Hyderabad.

Addressing at Non-Teaching Nagara convention being held at Telangana Bhavan, K Chandrasekhar Rao made it clear that a separate Telangana state without Hyderabad as the capital would not be acceptable to people of Telangana. He warned the Centre and state government against any proposal to make Hyderabad a union territory.

“Telangana state without Hyderabad will be a body without head. I am warning the prime minister and chief minister that any such proposal will have disastrous consequences,” he said. Stating that Centre was finding other alternatives, KCR warned that Telangana without Hyderabad as state capital would lead to another agitation.

However, sources say that MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has conveyed a Centre’s proposal to KCR on Wednesday of having a Telangana state by including Kurnool and Anantapur districts from the Rayalaseema region. KCR reportedly said that he was not opposed to merging of Kurnool and Anantapur districts in Telangana as it would not cause any irrigation problems.

The Centre was also considering giving Union Territory status to Hyderabad. However, KCR has reportedly rejected both the proposal.
