The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government on Thursday changed the name of the Planning Commission to ‘Neeti Aayog’.
Congress leader Rashid Alvi, however, criticized the government for only changing the name of the body, instead of coming out with some new initiatives to take the nation forward economically.
“This is all that the government has done in past seven months. They have not worked for nation. They have nothing left to do. If you think you will be praised for changing a name then you are mistaken,” said Alvi.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Yogendra Yadav questioned whether changing the name will ensure justice and morality?
The Planning Commission was established in 1950. The decision to change its name came months after Prime Minister Modi had announced that it will be replaced by a new body.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had met the Chief Ministers to discuss various aspects relating to restructuring of the Planning Commission. During the meeting, the Prime Minister had sought the views of the Chief Ministers regarding the structure, scope and role of the new body that will replace the Planning Commission.
