Centre committed to freedom of Media, asserts Venkaiah

Hyderabad: Union minister for information and broadcasting M Venkaiah Naidu today asserted that the Centre is committed for the freedom of media, and added that news should be disseminated keeping in mind the nation’s security and its interests.
Inaugurating an Orientation programme for Urdu Journalists, held at Salar jung museum here and organized by Telangana Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ), Venakaiah Naidu opined that news which disturb law and order of the society should not be published or telecast. He said there should be credibility of the news and news should be disseminated as news only.
Stating that Urdu is a beautiful language, he regretted that Muslim brethren were distancing themselves from Urdu. Those who cannot love their mother tongue, would not be able to love anything. He said that the media is playing a key role in society. He assured that the time allocated for Urdu news in Television will be increased.
Commissioner of Information and Public Relations, Naveen Mittal, said that the Telangana Government is wedded for the welfare of Journalists. He said that Health cards are being issued to Journalists and Rs. five lakh accident insurance benefit is being extended to them. He assured that Accreditation cards would be issued to the Desk journalists and those working at district and mandal level.
K. Sreenivas Reddy, Veteran Journalist, Abid Rasool Khan, Chairman AP and TS Minorities Commission, K. Amarnath, member-Press Council of India were also present on the occasion. (NSS)
