Centre to announce decision on Telangana by 2014 elections: KK

Congress party senior leader K Keshav Rao on Tuesday expressed confidence that the Centre would announce its decision the Telangana statehood demand before 2014 general elections.

Talking to media persons after offering prayers at Lord Sri Venkateshwara Swamy ay Tirumala, Keshav Rao said that the Centre was ready to announce its decision on the formation of Telangana state.

Stating that there was no opposition to bifurcation of state from Seemandhra region, he said however the decision was delayed due to certain prevailing conditions in the state. He said that neither Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao nor Vijayawada MP Lagadapathi Rajagopla can dictate their terms on the bifurcation of state with the Centre. He said that the Centre would take decision on the statehood issue respecting the aspirations and wishes of region people.

Kesava Rao said that there was no need for intensifying the agitation for statehood. Stating that there was no opposition from the Telangana over the construction of multipurpose Polavaram irrigation project on river Godavari in West Godavari district, he said that the leaders were seeking change in project design only as the existing plan would submerge large tracts of lands apart from displacing the large number of tribals.
