Centre Allotes 254 MW to AP From NLC: CM Thanks PM

Hyderabad, August 15: In an all-important decision crucial for Andhra Pradesh, 254 MW of power has been allocated to the State from the 1,000 MW power plant being set up at Tuticorin by the Joint Venture Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) and the Tamil Nadu Power Limited.

The tariff at which the power will be supplied to Andhra Pradesh will be determined by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission. It may be stated here that the Union government took the decision due to the persistent efforts of the Chief Minister, Mr K Rosaiah, with the Prime Minister and Union Minister for Energy, Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister Dr K Rosaiah thanked the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, and Union Minister for Energy, Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde, for the magnanimous gesture towards Andhra Pradesh in allotting the 254 MW power. The Chief Minister said that this allotment was at a crucial time when Andhra Pradesh needed additional power allocation since the demand exceeded supply due to spurt in agricultural, industrial and domestic sectors.

The Chief Minister said the allocation of 254 MW power by the Centre will help the State in many ways since the agricultural operations are in full swing, thanks to good monsoon this year. Mr Rosaiah said that the demand was ever-increasing in industrial and domestic sectors as well. He hoped with the completion and commissioning of all the contemplated power projects in the State, Andhra Pradesh will become self-sufficient in power in the days to come.

The Chief Minister asked the APGenco to take advantage of the good monsoon and sufficient water in all reservoirs so that all hydro power projects could start generation to the full capacity. The Chief Minister also asked the APGenco and other Power projects to complete their projects right on schedule. The Chief Minister hoped that the latest allocation of power by the Centre will be a boon to the State.
