Central team visits Nalgonda

Nalgonda, November 06: A team of officials from the Centre visited the district today to assess the crop damage due to drought in the district.

The team comprising J P Singh, Ravinder Singh and B C Corporation MD Purushottam Reddy held a meeting with District Collector S A M Rizvi and enquired about the drought conditions.

Later, they inspected groundnut, maize and cotton fields in Mamillagudem of Mothey mandal, Chivvemla mandal headquarters, Chikatigudem village in Ketheypally mandal and Bollepally in Kattangoor mandal.

They also visited the photo exhibition on drought held at Suryapet. The team members also interacted with the farmers.

Later, addressing mediapersons, the members said the groundwater level has dropped drastically due to low rainfall. The condition is so bad that even animals are not able to find water for drinking, they said.

The team members promised to report about the problems being faced by farmers in the district to the Centre and ensure that there was sufficient help. Miryalguda MLA Julakanti Ranga Reddy (CPM) met the Central team and submitted a memorandum to them urging them to do the needed for sanction of Rs 2 crore for each mandal, supply free fodder and cotton seeds and provide relief to the farmers of sweet lime.
