New Delhi, January 20: A Superintendent of the Central Excise Department was arrested by the CBI for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh to close a case investigated by him.
“The complainant, a CEO and Executive Director of a firm dealing in fabrication work, was issued a show-cause notice by the Superintendent, Central Excise, Sonepat charging that the firm is a manufacturing unit. The officer demanded a bribe of Rs 7.5 lakh for closing the case,” a CBI statement said.
It said the Executive Director then lodged a complaint with the CBI.
A trap was laid and the Superintendent, who called the complainant to his residence at Shakarpur area in Delhi, was caught while allegedly demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs 1.5 lakh, the statement said.
