Center Seized of High Court Division for TS, AP Matter–Venkaiah

Union minister for parliamentary affairs M Venkaiah Naidu today informed the Lok Sabha that division of the High Court for both states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh is under active consideration of the Law ministry.
He said that the government will take a decision only after taking note of the views of both the states on the issue of High Court bifurcation. The Law ministry has seized of the matter and efforts were on for bifurcation of the High Court, he said.
Earlier, TRS parliamentary party leader A P Jitender Reddy gave notice of an adjournment motion and demanded immediate action to bifurcate the High Court as lawyers in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have been agitating for division of the High Court. Jithender said that Hyderabad, which is being the joint capital for two states for 10 years, should be divided at the earliest. He sought to know why the Centre is unable to sort out the issue in spite of division of the state nine months ago.
Notwithstanding the fact that Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014 promises to divide the high court to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States post bifurcation, the Centre is not taking action, he deplored. Consequently, the cases are being piled up as being left unattended, he stated. He also informed the house that seeking immediate bifurcation of the HC, the advocates in Telangana are on war path and taking on to streets in Hyderabad and Telangana districts for many days. Jithender Reddy also pointed out that injustice was being meted out to Telangana with regard to recruitment in the court. Keeping in view the intensity of the situation, the Parliament should take a final call for expeditious division of the high court, he added.
While rejecting Reddy’s notice to suspend the question hour, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan had allowed him to raise the issue. (NSS)
