Cell phone services suspended in Pakistan on Account of Ashora

After a suicide attack killing 57 people near the Wagah border checkpost on

Sunday, security has been beefed up in Pakistan.

Strict Security arrangements have been made on occasion of Ashura in Pakistan,

with cell phone services partially suspended and pillion riding banned.

The federal government directs the cellular companies to shut mobile services on

9th and 10th of Muharram, as security agencies believe that the cell phones may be

used by terrorists in the planning and execution of dreadful activities.

More than 20000 Policemen in uniform and plain clothes have been deployed to

protect the main procession. Cellphone jammers are also installed along the routes

of the Ashura processions.

The main procession of 10th Muharram will be taken out from Imambargah

Hussainia Hall, located in Saddar Bazaar. Saddar Bazaar will remain closed on

Monday and area residents have advised to avoid movement, said a Senior officer.
