Hyderabad, November 12: To prevent rigging in elections, Closed Circuit Televisions (CCTVs) will be set up at polling stations in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections, which will be held on November 23.
Special Commissioner GHMC and District Election Officer, M T Krishna Babu who attended a meet-thepress programme, organised by Hyderabad Union of Journalists (HUJ) on Wednesday in Hyderabad said that the State Election Commission had given permission to install 500 CCTVs at polling stations.
“As of now, we have identified at least 1,533 sensitive localities in the city and deployed 40,000 staffers to monitor the GHMC elections,” he says.
Krishna Babu said that the election officials are all set to the conduct Mayor and Deputy Mayor election on December 4. “We have the review meeting on GHMC elections with State election Commission officials and the police officials on Thursday.
We will decide whether the Mayor and Deputy Mayor election will be held on December 4 or 5,” he added.
A larger number of candidates are contesting from Somajiguda, Yousufguda and Suraram Colony while Faluknuma has fewer candidates in the GHMC elections.
For the convenience of new voters, a call centre will be set up to give out details of polling stations. New voter lists have already distributed to various political parties. Voter identity cards will be distributed by e-seva centres within two or three days.
Replying to a query on the number of history-sheeters contesting in the GHMC polls, Krishna Babu said the candidates were allowed to contest since they had not been convicted by the courts.
“Special teams will formed with senior officials to scan the paid news articles, which are given by contesting candidates to newspapers in the GHMC elections,” he said.
