CBI Spl. Director Asthana was BJP’s ‘sharpshooter’, Shiv Sena backed Saamana claims

Mumbai: Shiv Sena’s chief backed newspaper Saamna has alleged that CBI Spl. Director caught in a feud with another CBI top official has been functioning as BJP’s ‘sharpshooter’.

“Asthana enjoyed Modi-Shah’s trust. Nothing objectionable in this, but Asthana’s integrity is under question,” Saamna wrote in an editorial on Tuesday.

The editorial also flayed PM Modi for going on Japan tour in the midst of CBI officials controversial row, TOI reports.

“It is said Asthana bailed out (JDU leader) Nitish Kumar in the Srijan scandal, and pushed him into BJP’s camp,” claims Saamna.

It also said that Modi as Gujarat’s CM had appointed Asthana as head of the investigating agency in the Godhra case.

“In short, Asthana used to be at the BJP’s beck and call and Modi rewarded his service by appointing him as CBI’s special director,” alleges Saamna.
