CBI seeks custody of Mecca Masjid blast accused

Hyderabad, June 18: CBI today filed a petition in a local court seeking custodial interrogation of an accused in the 2007 Mecca Masjid bomb blast here.

The CBI, which brought Devender Gupta and another suspect Lokesh Sharma here yesterday from Ajmer Central Prison in Rajasthan, filed two petitions before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court seeking custodial interrogation of Gupta and to conduct a Test Identification Parade (TIP) of Sharma.

Gupta and Sharma, allegedly linked with Hindu outfits, were arrested by Rajasthan Police in connection with the 2007 Ajmer blasts.

The court posted both the petitions for hearing on June 21.

A CBI officer said there are two witnesses to identify Sharma. “Once Sharma is subjected to TIP, we will move another petition seeking his custody,” he said.
