CBI registers graft case against Sr Safdarjung doctor

New Delhi, July 14: The CBI today carried out searches at residential and official premises of a senior cardiologist of Safdarjung Hospital and claimed to have recovered “incriminating” documents showing properties worth Rs.10 crores in his and his family members’ name.

A case of disproportionate assets was registered under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act against Dr Rakesh Verma, Head of Cardiology Department at the hospital.

Official sources said as per intitial estimates, the properties are worth over Rs 10 crore but a final figure will be prepared after detailed examination of all the documents.

The searches were carried out at six locations including the official and residential premises of Dr Verma on the allegation that he was in possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 2.4 crores, the sources said.
