Mumbai, April 20: CBI has recovered Rs 1.30 crore in cash from the searches carried out at the official and residential premises of a senior income tax official arrested here for allegedly accepting bribe.
The official, Sumitra Banerjee, additional commissioner, Income Tax and her husband Subratho were arrested on April 17, 2010 while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 crore from the complainant.
Both are presently in CBI custody till April 27, 2010.
“Further investigation has led to tracing of two more lockers of additional commissioner of Income Tax and her husband, apart from one locker whose keys were found during searches,” CBI spokesperson said today.
“The search of the two lockers at IDBI Bank, Mumbai has led to recovery of cash Rs 84 lakh and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees. In all, cash Rs 1.
